WP343 Rethinking intercultural communication beyond verbal language: Affect, embodiment and materiality in times of ‘crisis’

Building on recent rethinking, this special issue introduction foregrounds the affective, relational, embodied and material dimensions of intercultural communication, and explores its links to ‘crisis’ as a lived, affective, and communicative condition, which is itself theorised as liminality.  It reviews papers by Victoria, Adami, Tarsoly & Ćalić, Tange, Schaefer and by Ganassin, Brohi & Georgiou, which address questions about, for example, the  kinds of communicative forms (or silences and censorships) brought about by experiences of threat and vulnerability, and the role of affect/emotions in times of crisis and the openings they call for in the study of intercultural communication.
