WP335 La tematización del lenguaje inclusivo en medios digitales

Resumen: Este artículo analiza la tematización del lenguaje inclusivo no binario en redes sociales en Uruguay. Entendiendo la tematización como una práctica reflexiva metalingüística y metapragmática, analizo dos casos ilustrativos: un segmento de un programa de televisión subido a YouTube y un meme publicado en Reddit. A partir de estos casos, investigo las condiciones semióticas, discursivas e ideológicas bajo las cuales se tematiza negativamente el lenguaje inclusivo no binario en el contexto uruguayo. Los análisis muestran que estas tematizaciones no se limitan al nivel lingüístico, sino que movilizan valoraciones sobre género, identidad nacional, afiliación política y legitimidad epistémica. En ambos casos, la tematización negativa del lenguaje inclusivo no binario se convierte en una estrategia para descalificar identidades disidentes y disputar el derecho a definir tanto la lengua como las identidades sociales. Se concluye que estas prácticas metapragmáticas evidencian el papel central del lenguaje en las disputas ideológicas contemporáneas y refuerzan la necesidad de abordajes críticos que contemplen las ideologías que subyacen al debate sobre el lenguaje inclusivo en el entorno digital.

Abstract: This paper examines the thematisation of non-binary inclusive language in Uruguay’s social media. Understanding thematisation as a reflexive metalinguistic and metapragmatic practice, I analyse two illustrative cases: a TV news segment uploaded to YouTube and a meme posted on Reddit. The analyses of such cases explores the semiotic, discursive, and ideological conditions under which inclusive language is negatively thematised in the Uruguayan context. The analyses show that such negative thematisations exceed the linguistic level, encompassing broader evaluations about gender, national identity, political affiliation, and epistemic legitimacy. In both cases, the thematisation of inclusive language functions as a strategy to delegitimize dissident identities and dispute the right to define language and social identity. The study concludes that these metapragmatic practices highlight the central role of language in contemporary ideological struggles and reinforce the need for critical approaches that account for the underlying ideologies in debates about inclusive language in digital media.
