Abstract

Michael Silverstein is the Charles F. Grey Distinguished Service Professor of Anthropology, of Linguistics, and of Psychology at the University of Chicago, and has played a central role in the development of contemporary US linguistic anthropology. At the first International Conference on Language and Superdiversity held at the University of Jyv?skyl? in June 2013, he gave a keynote lecture entitled ?How Language Communities Intersect: Is ?superdiversity? an incremental or transformative condition? ?, and in this wide-ranging conversation with Jef van der Aa and Jan Blommaert shortly before, he covers ? among other things ? translatability and the uses of standardisation.?
